On Monday, June 8th, The Board of County Commissioners recognized The Club & Spa at Fiddler’s Creek as the recipient of the “WRAP” Award for their enhanced and innovative recycling programs and for contributing to the greater good of Collier County by promoting “green” business practices, thereby helping to prolong the usable life of the Collier County Landfill.

The Board of County Commissioners and the Solid Waste Management Department congratulated Ron Albeit, General Manager, Phil Brougham, Chairman of Fiddler’s Creek CDD1, Dean Staar, Director of Engineering and all the staff of The Club & Spa at Fiddler’s Creek for their outstanding green business practices and continued efforts to promote waste reduction and recycling. Their “green team” promotes environmental awareness and sets a positive example for others. Their initiatives will have a significant affect in sustaining the usable life of the Collier County Landfill and protecting the environment.

General Manager, Ron Albeit commented, “Our residents participation and support helped make our program successful. Sincere thanks goes out to Phil Brougham for nominating The Club & Spa at Fiddler’s Creek for this award.”

According to the proclamation, The Club and Spa at Fiddler’s Creek demonstrates a good example for other businesses in the area. Their recycling program and green initiatives include:
• Providing staff members with a box container for the easy collection of recyclable office paper. Minimize waste by recycling shredded paper, newspaper, cardboard, aluminum cans, batteries and printer cartridges.
• Purchasing preference for recycled, re-manufactured, environmentally sensitive products and services.
• Reducing the number of paper-based communications by sending out weekly announcements through email blast, sending out a monthly Newsletter, and updating announcements on their in-house TV channel.
• Using silverware, glass and ceramic mugs for daily coffee and meals. Discourage use of Styrofoam, disposable plastic ware and minimize use of single-serve/pre-packaged condiments.
• Adding recycle bins in all areas; both front of the building for members and back of the building for employees.
• Initiating an extensive employee Environmental Policy to be signed by all employees requiring commitment to following its guidelines pertaining to the recycling and waste reduction green program.

The WRAP Award program includes a framed certificate, a trophy, use of the WRAP logo and space on the www.colliergov.net/recycles website showcasing their waste reduction and recycling program.
